Back to Basics September 23, 2006
Posted by Jen in : Journal, Writing Bits , trackbackI have realised that this blog has become inadvertently poncey… and my incessant twiddling of fingers as I count syllables for the obsessive formation of haikus is quite frankly beginning to worry even me.
‘Write a daily haiku’ proclaimed the dreaded A215 coursebook. ‘Keep a journal. Write first thing in the morning while your subconscious is still doing whatever it does when you’re not paying attention’ (or words to that effect). It has a lot to answer for.
At 5.30 this morning, I awoke with something amazingly creative fizzling in my mind. ‘Write it down, write it down, it’s too good to forget,’ insisted my brain, unfettered by caffeine - though admittedly possibly still a little booze-addled.
I’m not quite sure what long suffering bf was mumbling as I snapped on the bedside light, ranting ‘where’s my bloody pen?’. It sounded suspiciously like ‘oh, for f**k’s sake’. So… after this preamble, I should probably share what was scribbled into my notebook and which, yes, I confess, I would have forgotten:
“She was dark-skinned but with freckles - half black and half white like a Starsky and Hutch concentrate”
Oh dear.

Anything involving Starsky and Hutch can’t be all bad.
It’s quite peculiar that something like a TV programme can lurk in the subconscious after so many years… how does that happen?
Love your blog
Well, ‘Starsky and Hutch’ has been particularly to the front of my mind recently due to a stint of Series 1 on DVD. Ahhh, happy days. It was the first programme I watched on TV, apparently.
Oh, and thanks.
