Bravery vs. Lunacy May 26, 2007
Posted by Jen in : Novel , trackbackThis is probably a very bad idea… but… I have come over all brave. It won’t last.
I have added a new page… the first few thousand words of The Novel… it’s at the top… on its very own tab/page/thingummyjig. You can just click here if you get the urge to read it.
Eeeeeeeeek. Ok, the formatting has gone wonky. I know not why.
I am feeling a little shy.
My tummy has gone all swirly. Oh my goodness. What am I doing?
Perhaps I will delete it… soon… when the scaredy-ness takes over.
Feel free to comment/offer advice/shake your head sadly at the utter bloody simple minded rubbishness of it all…
Oh… crumbs…

It’s very scary letting people read your work; been there, done that! I let non-writers read my stuff first. People who would be my novel’s target readership. Then I bit the bullet and put my stuff on my website for anyone to read. Some of my writing buddies have read my stuff and I’ve found it very useful.
Try not to panic too much. I’ve read the extract and I think it’s great! I like the idea of a school reunion. I like your style of writing and I would read on.
Good luck!
Hi AW - well, that you’d be willing to read on is the main thing! It’s terribly difficult, setting your baby free in the wild, isn’t it?
Actually, I think one of the trickiest things is actually just getting it all down rather than tinkering with the bits I HAVE done. Right, time to get cracking!
I would read on too. I like the way the characters’ different voices are coming through, and the differences between their perceptions of themselves and their views of each other. I loved the surprise effect of Laura’s bombshell. You have to write the rest now because I want to know what happens!
Aw, thanks Zinnia… it’s really all about the perceptions, as in ‘We don’t see things as they are, we see things as WE are…’ At least it seems to be working. Am off to make a cuppa and read your first draft now!
Oh, now I can’t wait to read more!
I think you’re very brave. I haven’t got up the nerve to let anyone read my WIP yet, but I’m hoping I’ll get to that point in the next few months. I also struggle with the tinkering. It’s just so addicting!
I must admit, I felt very brave indeed. Silly, really, aren’t we?
Looking forward to reading some of yours
Hi Jen
It isn’t silly, it’s bloody terrifying: When I was making art, I always likened it to showing a stranger my knicker drawer; like opening up your soul to let everyone see your baggage. I read it a couple of days ago and having been meaning to come back and tell you how much I enjoyed it and I would definitely want to read on. So keep at it!
JJ
Cheers Blogging Twin!
I know what you mean - it’s like letting people see inside you, all your dreams out in the wild, ready to be shot at. So much easier to take cover in your tin hat but not half so exciting!
