Free Festive Fings December 21, 2007
Posted by Jen in : Journal , trackbackThe tree is up, ahead of my usual bad-tempered schedule. The lights are twinkling merrily though the angel looks, as always, as if she’s been molested. I can’t bear to buy a new one though. It wouldn’t be right.
The boys are heading off for the weekend and lovely bf has disappeared up north to the land of pies and whippets to visit his family. It’s just me for the weekend. All on my little ownsome. I toyed with the idea of extreme partying but have settled instead for writing, reading and long soaks in the bath with plenty of wine to hand. Oh, and the Strictly Come Dancing final. Sad, I know.
Everything outside seems shrouded in mystery. The trees are secretive, bare and still, in the fog. Everything has stopped. Streams and ponds have frozen mid-ripple. The scary skull that lives in the window of an oast house on my secluded dog-walk is wearing a Santa hat.
I’m smiling. It’s nearly Christmas.

Happy Christmas Jen!
Merry Christmas Jen!
P.S Nothing wrong with what you have planned for the weekend! Esp. The Strictly Come Dancing Final-I’ll be watching it too!
Enjoy your weekend. It sounds lovely.
And Merry Christmas.
Have a kewl Yule!
Glad you opted for the rock n’ roll weekend. Extreme partying is soo over-rated.
Will be glued to Strictly too. Who will be the one to fondle that glittery ball??
Happy Christmas to you too Kate - hope Santa brings you lots of lovely crafty stuff.
A Writer - I love weekends of nothingness - but only when I choose it though! I’m excited about Strictly already. Eeeeeeeek!
Angie - you’d love it here in the English countryside right now with everything coated in frost. It’s beautiful. And Merry Christmas to you too.
Hedgewizard - ho ho ho, Meeeeeerry Christmas!
Lane - ooh, fondling balls is a bit much for me to cope with before brek. Honestly, what are you like?

Sounds like the perfect pre Christmas unwind.
Take care and merry merry Christmas to you, lovely bf and your boys.

Enjoy your weekend! Sounds very similar to mine - daughter has gone to her Dad’s, I’m on my own and will be watching a film with a glass of wine tonight, and doing some baking tomorrow. Ah, pease and quiet!
Happy Christmas, and may 2008 be a fine writing year
Enjoy your weekend of space. I had one last week and it was blissful, despite having a cold. This weekend is more hectic with my gorgeous bf up to stay and the wee boys getting giddy about Christmas. He and I fell asleep on the sofa just after nine, just cuddling in each other’s arms, aww.
I love the skull in the window with the santa hat on. How maginificantly understated and ironic.
A scary skull on your dog walk? You are very brave or do you run past with your fingers crossed?
Enjoy your soaks, wine and writing - not sad at all.
Hi Jen! Just popping by to wish you and your family a very happy Christmas :o) x
Merry Christmas Jen!
Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
Cx
Caroline - unwinding is what it’s all about. I’m not very good at much but relaxing I can do well!
Sal - hello! Ooh, baking, that sounds a good idea. The boys will be pleased with me if they get back tonight to find homemade goodies. Merry Christmas to you too
Hullaballoo - Falling asleep in a cuddle is heavenly, isn’t it? The skull looks wonderfully ironic - brilliant that some brooding Goth has given in to Christmassy naffness.
Fiona - I walk through deserted fields which take me from home, right around Batemans (Rudyard Kipling’s house) and the skull in the window looks quite portentous as I scurry down the makeshift lane. It really makes me smile to see its Santa hat!
Cally - thanks! Wishing you a fab Christmas and another brilliant writing year. x
Cathy - Merry Christmas to you too. And yes, I am, thank you
So, what’s sad about Strictly Come Dancing?, except that Matt didn’t win, of course…[sob].
Merry Christmas, etc. Hope it’s a good one!
Leigh… AAARRGGHHHH. I fell asleep before the final (absolutely nothing to do with the bottle of red I’d downed!) and have been avoiding tv, radio and websites since I woke up so as not to know the result before I watch it later. Aaaarrrghhhh. Not that I want you to feel bad or anything. AAARRRGHHH. Aw, poor Matt, he’s scrummy.
Merry Christmas to you too… X
I hope you’re enjoying your weekend so far. Sounds like it! We all need some me-time every now and then.
Your weather sounds like ours up here in Shropshire. Cold and foggy and just a little bit magical when it turns frosty.
Happy Christmas to you Jen!
What’s all this fog about then? I haven’t been able to see further than 20 metres since we touched down on Friday. It’s very Hammer House of Horror. Hope your weekend is/was as relaxing as it sounded.
Mya x
A little time to yourself is always good, hope you enjoyed it and are now ready to enjoy the main event.
Happy Christmas
Nez, it’s been lovely. Frosty is good, isn’t it? Looks all Christmassy, especially first thing in the morning.
Mya - Joyeux Noel! Hmmm, I’ve been convincing myself that the fog is very Dickensian and fabulous but, yes, now you come to mention Hammer House of Horror… hope you enjoy being back in Blighty.
Sheepish, I am now fully recharged and raring to go. Woo hoo! Have a lovely Christmas.
X
Have a fantastic Christmas Jen - lots of love to you and yours

Love and yucky kisses coming at you - Merry Christmas Carol X
Happy festive wossnames from me too. I had a very chilled-out weekend as well, and feel ready for the fray. And the best news of all is: there won’t be a fray!
Happy Xmas and a Merry New Year :o)
Ooops…
Zinnia - glad to hear you’re fray-free. Wishing you a publishing deal in your stocking x
Captain Black - why thank you. Merry Christmas to you too
Leigh - it did make me laugh, honest! I didn’t even mind Alesha winning when I saw how beautiful and happy she looked. x
Okay, I’ve got a sick sense of humour, but loved the ‘molested angel’ image!
Ooh, Wordtryst, excellent - a wicked kindred spirit!
