Dear Blog,

I’ve been neglecting you. You sat there, despondent, empty, waiting for my input and there was none. Zilch. Bugger all.

Soz.

I’ve been busy, Blog. I’ve cluttered up the new house with things I’ll never need and can’t find the essentials. My lady’s bathroom accoutrements are missing; I now go by the name of Olga and have been asked sweetly by lovely bf whether I will be taking up shot putting.

I have ripped brambles out of the garden with my bare hands and resemble a murder with cuts and bruises everywhere.

I have tried to catch up with my photography course. Mission, should you wish to accept it: Message in a Bottle.

Yes, I really feel you’ve found your level in academia,’ smiles lovely bf as I stumble about madly, clutching camera and half-empty wine bottle.

I’ve also had another birthday and have that sinking feeling that, during this last year of my 30s, I should be achieve something in the next 360 days.

But still, the sun’s shining and the swallows are a-swooping. What better day to start my shot putting career. I’ve got the frowning and grunting part mastered so far…

Hey Jen. I’ve nothing much to say either except for hello as I’ve not been visiting you for a while (well I have - but silently). Happy belated birthday too..

2. bobo - May 8, 2008

I was really rad when I was 39, pushing out the frontiers of urban rebellion. Oh yes, I had my ear pieced. That showed them.

Though in fairness, I still have it pieced with a big danglely pirate earring. I like how it swishes {I’m that hard!}

3. Captain Black - May 8, 2008

You’re catching me up Jen!

4. Yvonne - May 8, 2008

Happy birthday. I reckon I’d think of a wine bottle too if I got that assignment. At least you’d have fun drinking it!

5. hullaballoo - May 8, 2008

Happy Birthday Jen.

I can vouch for Bobo’s earring, it really is rather sexy and radical and not at all piratey in real life.

The boys wanted to know why he hadn’t pierced both ears lol.

6. JJ - May 8, 2008

Ooh happy birthday. I am very jealous of you being in the last year of your thirties. I am well into (nearly two years) into the next decade (ye gods) and I had my ear pierced again while I was in the UK, in a fit of middle aged crisis. Oh well.

It’s far too hot for shot-putting, you’ll only get red and sweaty. What will The Neighbour think?? You could always take photos of swallows a-swooping and Photoshop them into a bottle.

I think I’ve been in the sun too long…

8. Breezy - May 8, 2008

Life begins at 40 so go on Jen have another year off then think about achievements

9. B - May 8, 2008

Happy belated birthday :) hope it was a good’un :)

10. Jen - May 8, 2008

Helen - I’ve rather missed visiting everyone’s blogs over the past week or two. I think you win the prize for most exciting news though!

Bobo - I’m so dull, I can’t even think of anything radical to do! Sigh.

Cap’n Black - You’d better run faster then!

Yvonne - I drank the wine but didn’t photograph it. Oops.

Hullaballooooo - I’m not sure about earrings on (in?) men. But I’m sure Bobo has just the right level of cachet to carry it off.

JJ - You got pierced? Really? Wow, new hair AND new piercing, that’s cool.

Karen - no, no, it’s all making sense… bring on the sunshine light-headedness.

Breezy - ok then. Another year of gin and Jaffa Cakes and then I’ll be a grown up. Maybe.

B - Ooh, ta. It were a quiet ‘un and all the better for it :)

You’re a mere youngling and methinks you’ll achieve lots in the next 362 days, especially if you find your lady things and don’t take up shot-puttery … although shot puttery would be quite an achievement too:-)

12. Jen - May 9, 2008

Lane - you managane to make ’shot puttery’ sound quite delicate. You must be a writer… x

13. Carol - May 9, 2008

Happy belated birthday hon. Did you get a set of shot putts?

C x

Ps. Good to have you back :-)

14. bobo - May 9, 2008

I have BIG news and you have to come over to me RIGHT NOW!

15. Helenmh - May 9, 2008

Happy Belated Birthday. I’m also in that nearly the end of the 30s place - but I think achieving stuff is very overrated, don’t you?

16. Mya - May 10, 2008

Have you noticed I never mention my age, Jen?
Go for it with the shot-puttery - train by lobbing coconuts through hag-neighbour’s windows - that should get the nets twitching.

Mya x

17. Zinnia Cyclamen - May 10, 2008

Once again lovely bf gets the best line. Hope he made up for it by getting you some top presents. Happy birthday (better late than never eh?)

18. Sal - May 10, 2008

Happy belated birthday - wishing you many bottles of lovely wine.

I had a bit of a “coming up to big number” crisis when I was 39, but a bit later on I decided that if anyone asks me how old I am, I shall give them my house number. So, I have been 28 for quite a while now. It’s my way of saying “sod you for asking, who gives a stuff anyway”.

19. Jen - May 12, 2008

Carol - no shot puts, more’s the pity!

Bobo - I came, I saw, I commented. Is v good. V good indeed. Yay for happy endings :)

Helen - oh, no, achieving stuff - control style method - is where it’s at. Or maybe ‘lie down more and eat more cake.’ Something achievable. No?

Mya - Oh, shot put meets catapult. Genius as always.

Zinnia - Lovely bf was somehow talked into buying rather expensive camera gear. Mwah ha ha ha…

Sal - thank you… mmm… I am 11. Oh dear. Should I dust down my school uniform? Now that WOULD give the neighbours something to tut about…

20. Helen Shearer - May 15, 2008

Life certainly does begin at forty, although it took me until forty-one to figure that out. I don’t think you should do anything as rash as trading in your sweet, young thang for some doddery old fart. Strapping young hunks keep us young!
