Of Feeble Photographic Frenzies July 9, 2008

Posted by Jen in : Journal, Photos , trackback

Jolly good then. Photography course finished, portfolio submitted. Well, when I say portfolio, I do of course mean a set of ten surprisingly rubbish and random photos, edited and snappily titled. ‘Sky in Saucer’, anyone? (It’s a play on words, see, rhymes with flyin’ saucer. Geddit? No, me neither.) I was quite pleased with my whizzy titles until I bothered to read the guidelines which said ‘do not give images whizzy titles’ or somesuch. I’m glad I read that. After I’d submitted the rotten bloody thing. Yay.

So. Some lucky clever-clogs will get to peruse, amongst others, a ghostly, aging, sepia-toned local cottage, mainly obscured by a hedge; my new music stand; some honeysuckle wot I squirted wiv a squirter; some bits of deckchair in the dark. Oh yes, I bet they can’t wait.

My one example of being experimental, however, got the best feedback from No. 2 Son.

“Oh dear, Mitzy, what have you done to it?”

So, back the writing. Thank goodness for that eh? I’m feeling cheery that it’s done despite the fact that, now that I no longer need to be sellotaped the PC or coursework, the outside world appears to have become some film set for the re-making of Noah’s Ark.

To celebrate my joy, I am singing Ronan Keating songs in the style of Pavarotti. This sounds rather like Pavarotti with a peg on his nose, singing quite crap songs. I knew you were wondering.

Congratulations on finishing your porfolio and I’m glad you’re back writing again. Love the photo, the colours are gorgeous (I don’t know anything about photo composition but I know what I like!) hope you post some more.

2. Pacha - July 9, 2008

Oh! Well done on finishing the course and I’m sure your portfolio is brilliant. You put me to shame…all these things that you do.

I am barely coping with waking up and getting the kids their breakfast these days ;)

3. Lane - July 9, 2008

A picture speaks a thousand words but a whizzy title always helps. That’s the whole saying, honest!

Well done on finishing. The deckchair pic (is that yours?) is right good!

And for your next trick you must sing Westlife songs in the style of The Three Tenors:-)

4. Jen - July 9, 2008

Yvonne - I don’t seem to know much about photo composition either! There are few more here if you’re in need of an aid to sleep.

Pacha - Give up feeding the children and do other things. It saves a fortune too.

Lane - Ah, if only I’d realised the whole saying. You really are terribly wise. Yeah, dodgy deckchairs one of mine. Westlife + Three Tenors? Blimey? All of ‘em? Crikey. (V glad you’re going to be at the meet. Will sing to you then!)

5. JJ - July 9, 2008

Oooh fab pic Jen. I love it. Glad to hear you’ve finished your portfolio. Looking forward to seeing you Saturday.JJx

6. Tom Foolery - July 9, 2008

Ronan Keating in the style of Pavarotti,PLEASE! There was me thinking you were one classy woman, hang you head in shame. (Photos are good though. Is the pub in Central London?) If so confess to being rather drunk in said pub.Hangs head in shame :O

7. Paige - July 9, 2008

Well done finishing your portfolio!

I’m really looking forward to meeting you on Saturday! xx

8. B - July 9, 2008

I likes the photies :) and I am also looking forward to meeting you!

9. HelenMH - July 9, 2008

Love the deckchairs! And love the singing repertoire!

10. Jen - July 10, 2008

JJ- Looking forward to seeing you to - it’s rather nice to think of you at this end of the world…

TF - Class? Me? Oh dearie me, sadly not. The Nell Gwynne pub IS in a seedy little alley quite close to Charing Cross - round the corner from the Adelphi Theatre. Rather drunk eh? And there was me thinking you were one classy woman, etc etc. Is good to know we’ve boozed in a parallel universe.

Paige - Thanks Sweetie. I’m looking forward to meeting you too. Is very exciting, this Novel Racers Meet but also slightly nerveracking. Ooh, what to wear, what to wear!

B - It’s so cool that you’re coming too - yay!

Helen - Ah, you are clearly a woman of discernible musical taste. Bit of Val Doonican today perhaps? Could you do the whistling part? I’m useless at that.

11. Honeysuckle - July 10, 2008

Well done! It’s lovely to finish something, and your deckchairs are ace - really immediate and bold.

Now, what’s next?

12. hullaballoo - July 10, 2008

Reading the guidelines after submission, that’s exactly what I would have done too lol. Who makes these silly rules? Why do a photography course if you can’t give your pics whizzy titles?

13. Carol - July 10, 2008

Pah, do these people know nothing!!….Every pic needs a whizzy title!!

Well done on finishing your portfolio hon :-)

C x

14. Lucy Diamond - July 10, 2008

Jen, that really made me laugh! I want a full performance of the Pavarotti on Saturday please….

15. karen - July 10, 2008

I did a City & Guilds photography course a few years back and my theme was Bridges. Gawd almighty, you’ve never seen such pretentious nonsense as the pictures I turned in. The words ‘don’t give up the day job’ MUST have have been on the examiner’s lips.

I’m sure yours are Much Better, and full marks for getting them in on time :o) As for the singing…I wondered what that whining noise coming down our chimney was yesterday. Don’t give up the day job…

16. sheepish - July 10, 2008

Oh they’re deck chairs are they!!! No don’t give up on the writing job cos’ what appears on your blog usually has me in stitches and I’m sure your novel will be equally as good. Whether it’s a comedy or not!

17. Debs - July 10, 2008

Well done on finishing your portfolio.

I love the pics of the deckchairs and fancy the idea of sitting on a beach somewhere in one - not sure quite why though. I think I just love the colours and the stripes.

What a way to celebrate. I hope the family are suitably impressed by your rendition.

18. Paige - July 10, 2008

Oh Jen. It is scary too! I’m not sure what to wear either as long as it’s not purple flairs, a maracme cardigan and a necklace with beads bigger than your head! ;)

19. Nez - July 10, 2008

I’m sure you’ll be fine! I always have a crisis of confidence about these things too. :)

I just wish it would stop raining, so I can my Nikon out and about.

20. Zinnia Cyclamen - July 11, 2008

So what did you call the deckchair photo? Not The White Stripes? Ironing A Deckchair Can Be Fun? Pile ‘Em High And Sell ‘Em Cheap? We need to know!

21. Jen - July 11, 2008

Honeysuckle - you slavedriver! What’s next indeed. Since you ask… finish re-write of The Novel for August deadline; spend rest of summer writing short stories; in Oct, Open University writing course starts for 6 months or so. I will also be shouting at my children and drinking too much wine. yes, that seems to be it.

Hullaballoooo - dreaming up daft titles that make it sound as if you actually intended your photos to come out that way is the best bit.

Carol - We know way more than the people who know nothing. We are tres whizzy, as they say in France.

Lucy D - I will be in The London with a fully laminated stamp bearing my full operatic repertoire, just for you. After 17 gin and tonics, I shall take requests and stand on a table to further demonstrate my talent of singing craply whilst standing on a table. What d’you mean, it’s not that sort of a party?

Karen - in the OU coursework, they send a CD/DVD thing with tutorials on it. In the last one, there’s some guy commenting on an example submission and it’s all “dear oh dear, what’s this supposed to be” which I can almost hear them muttering about mine from here. I would like to see some of your photos. I bet you have a good eye.

Sheepish! Cheeky whippersnapper. In stitches eh? Laughing at my miserable existence eh? Oh, woe is me.

Debs - there’s something really retro about deckchairs isn’t here? When I go home to Jersey, we will have to meet and sit on the beach with hankies on our heads. Mwah ha ha haaaaa.

Paige - You have such a good memory. Now where did I put my flares?

Nez - all this rain is a bit rubbish for flouncing about with technomological equipment, isn’t it? You’re not allowed to have a crisis of confidence now that you’ve passed your exam anyway.

Zinnia - Naturally, your titles are far more inspired than mine. Sadly, it was called Deckchairs in the Dark. Pffff. I will be commissioning you for titillating titles in future.

22. Lucy Diamond - July 11, 2008

Jen - it is TOTALLY that kind of party if I’ve got anything to do with it. After 17 gin and tonics I might even get up there with you for a duet. What do you reckon?

23. Lucy - July 11, 2008

I demand a podcast of that… actually I wouldn’t know what to do with it if I had one, but the desire is genuine.

Absolutely fab deckchairs. The sepia cottage sounds pretty cool; I took a crop of the friends who got married in their jeep and sepiaed it and dodged out the edges to look like an old postcard, kitschy kitschy koo!

24. Jen - July 12, 2008

Lucy D - Woo! Now that’s wot I’m talkin’ abowt (she said in the style of Lee McQueen)

Lucy - Two Lucys in a row, fancy that. (The other one’s not a real one though. Shhh. Don’t tell her I told you.) Kitschy kitschy koo sounds awesome. Dodging out the edges, brilliant idea. Must try that. You always make me want to try new things. Podcasts… oh ‘eck. Bit technomological for me that.

25. Nez - July 12, 2008

Technomological - I like that!

(Have found an example of a fun rainy photo. My friends’ little boy stamping in a puddle - a very small puddle. But he’s super-cute so we all thought it was hilarious. I’ll ask and see if they’ll let me upload the photo.)

26. Jen - July 15, 2008

Nez - Aw, I hope they let you post it. I actually feel rather sad that we live in a world where we can’t just email a cute pic to someone. Hey ho.
